In 2016, Instagram released their new feature, shoppable tags. This feature bodes well for online retailers who are interested in converting interested prospects into paying customer while on their Instagram feed. Not only will this increase direct conversions right from Instagram, but provide a better user experience for all in-app shoppers.
Users interested in the products featured in your Instagram posts will no longer have to be interrupted by separate browser windows. Now, the products featured in photos can display a shopping bag icon in the corner if a brand has a product catalogue associated with their account. Once a user taps the photo, pricing for the items will appear. If a user chooses to view the item further, they will be taken to a screen within the app that displays more product information. From here they can select "shop now" which will redirect them to your webpage without ever leaving the Instagram app.

Shoppable posts don't require any type of monetary investment from you as a business owner, as it exists within the organic realm of your Instagram page. Users will only see these posts if they are currently following your page, whereas Instagram ads will be shown to people who aren't currently following your page.
