Contests & Giveaways
Contests are a tried and true way to engage your audience as well as a way to improve brand awareness among other strategic benefits. A good example of this tactic is Starbucks. One holiday season, the company launched its holiday cup challenge in which they encouraged fans and coffee-addicts alike to get creative with their red cups. Using the hashtag #redcupcontest, customers could snap a pic of their custom designs and upload them to Instagram for a chance to win an eGift card. Little did these customers know, Starbucks was brilliantly generated lots of user content, while collecting data on customer preference to determine what winter-esque designs their fans wanted to see.
Involve Employees
Showing your company culture brings a face to your brand. Go beyond your products to take opportunities to showcase your office or store life. A great time to do this is around the holidays. Show employees that have dressed up for Halloween, or share some hilarious snap shots from the holiday party.
User Generated Content
User generated content, also known as UGC, is an easy and super effective way to utilize your biggest fans to spread and sell your products or services for you. This practice enables your following to share your brand's content in some way, thus building social proof around your business brings new leads to your door. Leads that are much more likely to convert because they like what they see and have already established an opinion about your business based on what they've read/seen through word-of-mouth posts on social media. It initiates trust right from the start because we trust what our friends say and share online more than we trust what a brand puts out. UGC is also a great way to collect photos and content for you blog, website, Facebook page, Instagram account, Twitter posts, Pinterest stream...you get the idea. And according to Business Insider, "shoppers who interact with UGC are 97 percent more likely to convert with a retailer than customers who do not." That's definitely a number big enough to convince us to use it.
Themed Promotion
Seems pretty basic, but creating a promotion that helps your audience get in the spirit of the holiday should never be underestimated.
Decorate Your Page for the Holiday
You decorate your house, your office, and even yourself for the holidays—so why not your company's social media pages? You could create a version of your logo with some cobwebs and maybe a jack-o-lantern or update your cover photo to a spooky scene. Google is a great company to draw inspiration from.
